Strawberry Lace Scarf

This weekend I've finished and blocked the Strawberry Lace Scarf. I'm so pleased with how it's turned out :) I might have to make myself one. Or possibly two.

As mentioned in a previous post it's from the Crochet Noro book. Its a beautiful book, every single project in it is divine, the pictures are glorious, it makes you want to rush out and buy as much yarn as you can get your hands on (nothing new there then).

Look how crinkly the scarf looked before blocking ....

Here it is pinned out on my blocking boards. I use those foam tile things for kids, you know the ones you can join together, my lot make hopscotch with them in the garden. Don't worry, they aren't muddy, I bought myself a whole pack Just. For. Blocking.

I love how blocking transforms something from a shrivelled up mess into a gorgeous piece of gorgeousness :)

It is a tad (ie a LoT) longer after blocking than I'd anticipated, however I do think that for a scarf it is better to err on the side of too long. Nothing worse than a short scarf, is there.

The scarf is a present for Little Man's mentor, Mrs W. Mrs W. has been so good with him this year, hubby and I are so grateful. She deserves a medal but hopefully a scarf is even better. I hope she likes it :)

  2. It is a beautiful scarf that I'm sure will be loved and appreciated. I have those same sort of foam blocks that I bought just for blocking too. Much less expensive than the ones from the knitting shops.

  3. It is gorgeous, and I have that book but don't remember that pattern. I think I need to go take a peek at it and make one for myself. Of course only after yo make one for yourself.

  4. It is absolutely gorgeous - pattern as well as colours !!
How long is it exactly, after blocking ?
Good idea, those foam thingies for blocking ! I mostly use my ironing board, but then struggle with bigger pieces...

    1. I think its a little over 3 metres, but as it's narrow you can wear it wrapped around a couple of times. I didn't use the recommended yarn though x

  6. It is gorgeous Jill! Amazing what a difference blocking makes isn't it, you have demonstrated that very well here. I love the pattern and the colour and no, you cannot have a too long scarf, but can very easily have a too short one! xx

  9. I'm sure she will love it - the scarf is really gorgeous and definitely better too long than too short. I have the Crochet Noro book too and love it. I've made a few things from it but would love to make it all.

  10. I'm sure she will love it, the yarn you used is very pretty & the scarf is equally as lovely. I've seen those boards in the supermarket are they really any good, they seem much cheaper than 'real blocking boards'? I think I shall pick up a pack or two at the weekend x

    1. They seem to work fine to me, I just use normal sewing pins and it seems ok!
