August Break Day 1 : Outside

So I'm plonked on the sofa, feet up (its a recliner - heaven) just doing my regular blog perusal. I love doing this, I don't manage it every day, but I do love hearing what everyone across the globe has been up to recently.
Today's blog survey quickly brought me to the lovely Penny's blog The Homemade Heart, and more specifically her post The August Break Lunch. Penny explained that she is participating in The August Break 2014 , set up by Susannah Conway.

The concept is that during August, for as many days as you want to, or can manage, you post a photograph, and some accompanying text. Simples. Susannah has also set up a list of subjects for inspiration.

We are going away for a bit in August and I didn't want to not blog at all but equally wasn't exactly sure if I would really want to either. A flexible project such as this is perfect.

Off we go then.... Susannah's suggested topic for today is Lunch. Well that would be a very boring photo from me for today as I've been laid up in bed all day with a really bad migraine so lunch was a big fat nothing! Instead (sorry Susannah) I've decided that today's subject for me is "Outside".

Outside in my garden is our trusty picnic blanket, draped over the side of our swing-set drying from yesterday's Fun in the Sun.
My Mum bought me this blanket for my 29th birthday and said "Everyone needs a travel rug". I have to admit I was horrified! Vouchers for clothes, a CD or cinema tickets would have been far more my thing back then. The "travel rug" stayed all nicely folded in its cellophane wrapping for years and years.

Fast for ward to now and this blanket has become a firm family favourite. Its been to Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Wales, Scotland and of course back to the home it came from, Northern Ireland. It's been in grassy fields, beaches, parks, National Trust properties and gardens. It's been used for picnics, sunbathing, drying off and making dens. It never seems to get especially dirty and, though often sodden with sand or bits of grass, a good old shake seems to bring it back to full health.

My Mum and Dad have basically the same blanket so I feel like it's always been with me.
Despite my initial reservations, I love this blanket.

Mum you were right, everyone DOES need a travel rug ♥

  1. Hello! That is a fun idea for posts. I'm going to be gone camping so I can't start something when I'll be off the grid and sitting around a campfire and sailing in the afternoons. Have a good time! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. I know what you mean about time! I have so little time at the moment to create, while the children are off, so for me this is a great way to think about something quick to blog about :)

    1. Yep. Truly awful :( I'm having acupuncture which really helps, but I had a break from it as my therapist had to give up temporarily. Found a new one now though, so hoping to get back on it soon :) xx
